Private Music Lessons

Scarsdale -- Greenwich -- New Canaan

Consider joining Dr. LaMarre's private studio.

Janice has worked intensively with four students in Scarsdale - two of whom were accepted to Ivys and two of whom are current students.  Current students are concert master of the middle school orchestra and international competition-winner, and the other on her way (age 8, mid-book 4).  Janice mentors and guides her Scarsdale students according to family goals.

New Canaan

As a prior 'New Canaan Mom' herself, Janice understands the culture of eductational excellence within the framework of community and often significant sports commitment.  Dr. LaMarre supports her beginner students learning within the schools to quickly master the basics.  Playing from the start with perfect technique, beautiful tone, and a relaxed posture allows students to enjoy violin and viola while attaining a leadership position within the orchestra.

Online Lessons

Dr. LaMarre uses occasional online teaching for all students in case of snow days or mild illness.  She teaches a young equestrian online who travels to Florida, and two other students from prior in-person teaching in Manhattan and Michigan.  Taking online lessons saves students valuable time.  However, it is vital to still participate in live, group music-making with recitals and or orchestra.  Janice supports her online students to make music together, live, especially over the past two years when it has been more difficult.

Dr. LaMarre has been on faculty at the Greenwich Suzuki School, teaching students of various ages and levels.  She understands the demanding schedule of students who take music as an enrichment activity.  Janice helps her Greenwich students achieve their top level in a streamlined, efficient way.  She is happy to connect them to special opportunities and enriching extra lessons with her Juilliard, Yale, and MSM connections.

Dr. LaMarre has consistently taught homeschooled children over the past 15 years, and currently homeschools her own two.  The extra time for unrushed practice allows students to engage in self-directed and thoughtful learning.  Janice enjoys connecting her homeschooled students to organizations, orchestras, summer camps, and other group activities where homeschoolers thrive.

Upcoming studio recitals:

May 14, 3pm: Pound Ridge Library

What Dr. LaMarre's Students Say

Chiharu, mother of current students in Scarsdale

Janice has helped our family throughout our elder daughter's audition to Juilliard Precollege -- from selecting a top recording studio and being present to direct the recording, to giving advice throughout the process, encouraging our daughter to play her very best, and ultimately entering the private studio of the Juilliard professor of our choice.  She also guided us to apply to and win several international violin competitions in 2020-21.
